LEGAL / ENROLLMENT TERMS

LEARN WITH
CLEAR
TERMS.

The practical conditions for paid Borderless lessons—including renewal, attendance, cancellation, and learner conduct.

LAST UPDATED / 16 JULY 2026

PLAIN-LANGUAGE SUMMARY

Know the commitment before you pay.A trial application is not a paid contract. Your course, schedule, term, total price, and statutory rights are confirmed in writing before payment.
01

SCOPE AND CONTRACT

These Enrollment Terms apply to paid online Japanese lessons provided by Borderless Language House. A paid enrollment contract is formed only after Borderless confirms the learner's course, level, schedule, term, fees, and payment instructions, the learner accepts the applicable terms and required documents, and payment is completed or otherwise accepted by Borderless.

Submitting a trial application, selecting a possible trial date, attending a trial, or receiving a recommendation does not create an obligation to enroll.

02

PROGRAMS AND SCHEDULES

Lessons are delivered online in small groups. The learner's confirmed course, lesson frequency, class, start date, and service period are stated in the enrollment confirmation or contract document. Published schedules show the current plan but do not guarantee a place until Borderless confirms it.

Borderless may reasonably change a teacher, learning activity, or schedule when necessary to operate the program, while aiming to preserve the educational purpose and a substantially equivalent learning opportunity.

03

FEES AND PAYMENT

Current tuition is shown on the Programs page and in the Commercial Disclosure. Fees are paid in advance by credit card or bank transfer. Bank transfer charges, internet access, and the learner's device costs are the learner's responsibility. Borderless provides its required original lesson materials without a separate mandatory materials charge unless a different condition is clearly agreed before enrollment.

If payment is late, Borderless may pause access to lessons after contacting the learner. This does not remove an amount already due for a service period that began before the effective pause or cancellation date.

04

MASTER AUTO-RENEWAL

The Master Course is a one-month plan that renews automatically for successive monthly periods unless the learner or Borderless gives notice. A learner who wants to pause or leave must contact Borderless at least one month before the requested final lesson date. Borderless will confirm the final service date and any final payment in writing based on the learner's current billing period.

Credit-card payments may be charged on each renewal date. Learners paying by bank transfer must complete each renewal payment by the date stated in the invoice or payment notice. Renewal does not guarantee a particular teacher or time when a class becomes unavailable; Borderless will discuss a suitable alternative.

05

INTENSIVE TERMS

N4 Intensive has a minimum three-month service period. N5 Foundations normally runs for two to four months, with the exact period confirmed before enrollment. Any extension is agreed separately rather than assumed.

Where a course falls within Japan's rules for specified continuous services, Borderless provides the legally required pre-contract outline and contract document. Those documents state the full service period, total price, payment conditions, cooling-off rights, mid-term cancellation rights, and Borderless's privately disclosed business address and telephone number.

06

COOLING-OFF AND MID-TERM CANCELLATION

Nothing in these terms limits a mandatory consumer right. Where the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions applies to a language-school contract, the learner may cool off within the statutory period—generally eight days from receiving the required contract document—and may cancel prospectively after that period.

For an applicable language-school contract cancelled before lessons begin, the amount Borderless may claim is limited by law, currently up to ¥15,000. After lessons begin, settlement is limited to the value of services already provided plus the lower of ¥50,000 or 20% of the remaining contract value. If the law or an applicable local consumer rule gives the learner more favorable protection, that rule takes priority.

07

ABSENCE AND MAKE-UP LESSONS

If a learner misses a lesson, they may join an equivalent class at another time when the same class exists and has space. A make-up place is not guaranteed. Learner absence does not normally create a cash refund or reduce the fee for that service period, except where mandatory law requires otherwise or Borderless agrees to an exceptional arrangement for a serious unavoidable circumstance.

08

BORDERLESS CANCELLATIONS

If Borderless cancels a lesson and cannot provide a reasonably equivalent replacement, Borderless will offer an appropriate make-up lesson, extend the learner's service period, credit the affected lesson, or refund the value of the undelivered lesson. If a class cannot operate, Borderless will discuss another suitable class or a fair settlement for services that cannot be provided.

09

COURSE CHANGES AND PAUSES

A learner may request a course change when their level or goals change. Borderless may also recommend a change. Any change depends on readiness, available space, schedule, and any fee difference. Pauses require at least one month's notice unless Borderless agrees otherwise because of an unavoidable circumstance. The confirmed pause and restart conditions will be recorded in writing.

10

PREPARATION, MATERIALS, AND RECORDING

Lesson preparation is part of the Borderless method. When an activity asks for the learner's own Japanese, the learner must not use AI, translation, search, or another person to produce the submitted answer unless the teacher expressly permits it.

Borderless materials are licensed to the enrolled learner for personal study during the relevant course. They may not be copied, published, sold, shared, scraped, or used to train another service without written permission. Learners may not record, stream, photograph, or distribute a lesson or another participant without prior permission from Borderless and everyone affected.

11

RESPECTFUL PARTICIPATION

Learners must respect teachers, classmates, privacy, and the learning environment. Harassment, discrimination, threats, deliberate disruption, impersonation, unauthorized access, or repeated misuse of another person's information may result in a warning, temporary suspension, or termination. Borderless will consider seriousness, safety, and fairness before acting. Mandatory refund and cancellation rights continue to apply.

12

MINORS, PRIVACY, AND CONTACT

A learner under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian approve the enrollment and payment. Personal information is handled under the Privacy Policy. Enrollment, cancellation, billing, and legal requests may be sent to info@borderless-ja.com.

13

CHANGES, LIABILITY, AND LAW

The terms accepted for an existing paid service period will not be changed retroactively without agreement or a lawful basis. Borderless may update future terms and will give appropriate notice when a material change affects a renewal.

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without excluding mandatory consumer protections that apply to the learner. Borderless does not exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded.

This page is a general enrollment framework. Before payment, Borderless will provide the learner with the course-specific confirmation and any legally required documents.
